Alexis Akrithakis’ premature loss and the retrospective exhibition of his work is not only making again opportune his important contribution in the area of international artistic avant-garde, but it also brings up the issue of the international role and importance of Greek artists.

The visual vigor of his work and the possibilities for its exploitation belong to the scope of a broader policy for Hellenic Culture. His work can be the spearhead for an «aggressive» international promotion of our contemporary national identity.

In his own notes he was remarking that «in painting, words are useless». His work constitutes one more opportunity and challenge for «our Culture to become our policy». Akrithakis’ work can speak louder and cleared than any other politically enrolled logos for the need to love and to be free.

Today Alexis is:

What remains to us is the heavy burden and need to hold tightly his «suitcase», the symbol of CULTURE, LOVE and FREEDOM.
